1815. Sept. A. new viceroy has lately arrived,
who is much respected and beloved by the people. He
visited us soon after his arrival, and told us that we
must come to the government-house very often. After
he had moved into his new house, he gave an invitation
to all the English and Frenchmen to dinner. The

amuse the company. Among other things were music
and dancing. The wife of the viceroy asked me if I
