321. In fact, historical evidence shows that after the total<br />

rout <strong>of</strong> the Huns, that is to say, since about A.D. 550 Hindu<br />

Kings and emperors successfully crossed the Indus at various<br />

places^ and reconquered not only what are now known as<br />

Sindh, Baluchistan, Afghanistan, Herab, Hindukush, Gilgit,<br />

Kashmir and many other regions from the Greeks, the Huns,<br />

the Sakas and other foreign peoples, but hoisted the victorious<br />

national flag <strong>of</strong> the Vedic Hindus far beyond the north­<br />

western boundaries <strong>of</strong> Chandragupta Maurya's empire upto<br />

Utter Kurus ! Why, even in Khotan in Central Asia beyond<br />

Kashmir, there ruled Hindu kings and, in the opinion <strong>of</strong><br />

many historians, even Gazani was ruled by King Sheeladitya*.<br />

THE REJUVENASCENT HINDU NATION<br />

322. Even the foreign historians like Vincent Smith are<br />

astounded at the enduring ability <strong>of</strong> the Hindu nation to<br />

rejuvenate itself after crushing defeats. For a detailed<br />

account <strong>of</strong> this period and Smith's glowing tribute to the<br />

successful struggle for independence <strong>of</strong> the Hindus the<br />

curious readers are advised to refer to the concluding portion<br />

<strong>of</strong> Chapter IV <strong>of</strong> this book. Only one sentence will suffice<br />

here.<br />
