2. Multi-infarct (vascular) Dementia: The consequence of one or more strokes<br />

negatively impacting cognitive functioning. Onset is abrupt and pattern of<br />

cognitive deficits depends on the region of the brain affected.<br />

3. Dementia associated with Parkinson's Disease: This dementia is demonstrated<br />

by a slow progression. Also associated with Parkinson's is a high prevalence of<br />

depression and psychosis.<br />

4. Dementia associated with Lewy Body Disease: <strong>Clinical</strong>ly similar <strong>to</strong><br />

Alzheimer's. However, onset is earlier with a faster evolution. There is a<br />

prominence of psychotic symp<strong>to</strong>ms and sensitivity <strong>to</strong> antipsychotic<br />

symp<strong>to</strong>ms.<br />

5. Dementia associated with Pick's Disease (and other frontal lobe dementias):<br />

Early stages of dementia characterized by changes in personality, executive<br />

function, deterioration of social skills, emotional blunting, behavioral<br />

disinhibition, and prominent language abnormalities.<br />

a. Dementia associated with Hunting<strong>to</strong>n's chorea<br />

b. Dementia associated with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease<br />

c. Dementia associated with structural lesions (brain tumor, subdural hema<strong>to</strong>ma, head<br />

trauma, HIV nutritional deficiencies, endocrine conditions<br />
