ture is at once reduced in order to prevent the colours running
one into another.
If any part of the painting does not come up to expectation,
it may be removed by .careful scraping with a very hard
graver, and painted anew : it is, however, difficult to perform
this operation without damaging the appearance of the
painting.
The fusible coloured enamels may be fired in the muffle
shown in Fig. 13 or that represented in Fig. 16. This muffle
