I4« ANCIENT SONGS<br />

With that the babe fprang from her wombe<br />

No creature being nye, 13d?<br />

And with one fighe, which brake her heart,<br />

This gallant dame did dye.<br />

The lovely little infant yonge,<br />

The mother being dead,<br />

Refigned its new received breath 1$$<br />

To him that had it made.<br />

Next morning came her own true love,<br />

Affrighted at the newes,<br />

And he for forrow flew himfelfe,<br />

Whom eche one did accufe. 1 4®<br />

The mother with her new borne babe,<br />

Were both laid in one grave,<br />

Their parents overcome with woe,<br />

No joy thenceforth c<strong>old</strong> have.<br />

Take heed, you daintye damfelles all* 14$<br />

Of flattering words beware,<br />

And <strong>of</strong> the honour <strong>of</strong> your name<br />

Have an efpecial care.<br />

Too true, alas ! this ftory is,<br />

As many one can tell. ffpd<br />

By others harmes learne to be wile,<br />

And you fhall do full well.<br />
