The story of Dubai, at least the part that concerns
investments, economy and, as its consequence,
architecture, actually starts somewhere in the future.
Since oil was discovered in this second biggest
of the then-non-united Emirates (after Abu Dhabi)
on the coast of the Persian Gulf in 1966, it took less than
a decade for the population of this not particularly interesting
territorial unit on the desert’s edge to increase
for about 300 percent. Naturally, that was caused by
the sudden rise of the global economic interest for this
area.
