SECTION O: MEDICAL<br />

Appointment and Qualifications of Medical Personnel Old Rule<br />

O.1. Each Club shall appoint at least one part-time team doctor and one part-time<br />

crowd doctor and employ one full-time senior physiotherapist.<br />

O.2. Any doctor appointed by a Club (including, without limitation, the team doctor<br />

and crowd doctor appointed pursuant to Rule O.1) shall be a registered medical<br />

practitioner licensed to practice by the General Medical Council. A doctor<br />

(including, without limitation, the team doctor appointed pursuant to Rule O.1)<br />

whose responsibilities include giving medical treatment to players and who was<br />

appointed on or after the commencement of the 2002/2003 Season who has not<br />

previously held such an appointment must hold the Diploma in Sports Medicine<br />

or an equivalent or higher professional qualification. With effect from Season<br />

2008/09 each team doctor shall hold a current Football Association Advanced<br />

Resuscitation and Emergency Aid certificate or an equivalent or higher<br />

qualification approved by the Board.<br />

O.3. A crowd doctor appointed by a Club shall be a registered medical practitioner<br />

and either:<br />

O.3.1. hold the Diploma in Immediate Medical Care issued by the Royal College<br />

of Surgeons (Edinburgh) Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care (“the Faculty”) or<br />

its equivalent; or<br />

O.3.2. have successfully undertaken the Faculty’s Generic Crowd Doctor Training<br />

Course or its equivalent.<br />

Each crowd doctor shall successfully undertake the Faculty’s Generic Refresher<br />

and Skills Update Course at least once every five years.<br />

O.4. The senior physiotherapist employed by a Club shall be a Chartered Physiotherapist<br />

or a registered member of The Health Professions Council. With effect from<br />

Season 2008/09 each therapist shall hold a current Football Association<br />

Advanced Resuscitation and Emergency Aid certificate or an equivalent or higher<br />

qualification approved by the Board.<br />

O.5. Any assistant physiotherapist employed by a Club shall be a Chartered<br />

Physiotherapist or a registered member of the Health Professions Council or hold<br />

the Football Association’s Diploma in the Treatment and Management of Injuries<br />

or an equivalent or higher qualification.<br />

O.6. Team doctors and therapists appointed by a Club shall each year undertake a<br />

minimum of 36 hours of continuing professional development and shall maintain<br />

a record thereof and produce the same for inspection by a duly appointed<br />

representative of the League when requested and in addition shall attend the<br />

education conferences and seminars organised by the Football Association.<br />
