working with the body mapping
1
As soon as your client arrives,
use the five easy steps to
SM
consultation card and prescription sheet
3 6
Take the opportunity to review
Explain
the Consultation Card while the
understanding your client: Look, Listen,
Ask, Touch and Record. Make mental
notes of posture, mannerisms and
body movement along with voice
strength and pitch. Request that he/
she fully completes the Dermalogica
Consultation Card.
An example:
“Good morning, it’s very nice to meet you.
My name is… and I will be performing
your body treatment today. Have you
had a Body Therapy Treatment before?
No? Well, we have asked you to be
kind enough to come 15 minutes early
today to complete a Consultation Card.
This is something we ask all of our new
clients to complete. This enables us to
customize your treatment and to check
that there are no contraindications to
the procedures. We just need you to
check yes or no, provide any additional
information requested and then sign
the bottom of the card. Would you like
a beverage while you complete your
Consultation Card? I will come back
in about 10 minutes to take you to the
changing area and check if you have any
questions about the Consultation Card.
2 Take
your client to the changing
area or treatment room and explain
the procedure.
dermalogica
client is changing, taking care to note
any issues that may contraindicate a
phase of the treatment.
An example:
“Today’s body treatment will take
approximately 90 minutes. I will ask
you a few questions and share some
information with you during the dry body
brushing and Body Mapping SM phase
of the treatment. This is to help me
prescribe the right treatment that will
be customized for your specific needs
and educate you about your body
concerns. Don’t worry, I will ensure you
have plenty of opportunity to mentally
escape and enjoy the treatment.”
Aid your client onto the bed face down,
as you will work the back of the body first.
4 Cleanse
the feet with a sterilizing
wipe or steam towel customized
with Purifying Botanical Mixer.
5 Begin
dry body brushing from
the feet up towards the popliteal
lymph nodes, using light strokes over
backs of knees, and then up the back
of the thighs and buttocks to the
inguinal lymph nodes in the groin area.
Use the Dermalogica Body MappingSM techniques at the same time by handstroking
after each brushstroke to feel
skin and tissue and assess changes.
that there are 14 body
zones and while you are dry body
brushing you are also analyzing each
zone through touch. This method of Body
MappingSM helps maintain your client’s
sense of the body treatment experience
while providing essential information.
Ask questions as you work
methodically through each zone. Body
MappingSM the entire body should take
approximately 5 to 7 minutes.
7 Begin
the Body MappingSM procedure at Zone 1 – the back
of the right leg. Look for possible
symptoms as outlined in the "Body
MappingSM Zone-by-Zone" chart. Keep
contact with Zone 1 so your client
knows what area of the body you are
talking about. Begin to discuss your
findings.
An example:
“I am starting at Zone 1; this is the right
leg. I notice you have some fluid retention
around your ankles where you have been
wearing socks. Have you noticed this
before? Do you spend a lot of time sitting
or standing? This dry body brushing and
the massage will help to alleviate some
of the fluid retention but we may need to
assess your diet and exercise patterns
for a long-term solution.”
Use our codes to note your
findings on the Body Mapping SM
Prescription Sheet’s diagram.
b = breakouts
f = fluid retention
t = toxic accumulation
