The <strong>Dermalogica</strong> Extraction<br />
Technique is <strong>the</strong> most efficient<br />
way <strong>to</strong> remove comedones<br />
from <strong>the</strong> skin without fur<strong>the</strong>r<br />
impacting <strong>the</strong> health of <strong>the</strong> skin,<br />
and without spreading acne or<br />
breakout causing bacteria. The<br />
use of Scaling Fluid will fur<strong>the</strong>r<br />
assist in <strong>the</strong> removal and ultimate<br />
recovery from extractions.<br />

Perform Face Mapping ® 1<br />
skin analysis. Look for areas and type of congestion,<br />
particularly in zones 1, 2, 3, 7 and 12. Feel for under-surface congestion and<br />
check inside <strong>the</strong> ear canal for comedones. Provide feedback <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> client<br />
and inquire fur<strong>the</strong>r <strong>to</strong> discover more about your client’s skin and causes of<br />
congestion and breakouts. Assess <strong>the</strong> skin for inflamed and non-inflamed<br />
lesions <strong>to</strong> establish your extraction pro<strong>to</strong>col.<br />
2 Moisten cot<strong>to</strong>n with Scaling Fluid and place inside ears. Whip Scaling Fluid<br />
with a dry Fan Masque Brush in a small bowl and apply <strong>to</strong> face in <strong>the</strong> zones<br />
where comedones were noted. Steam for approximately 10 minutes. Caution:<br />
when using high level exfoliants, avoid using Scaling Fluid.<br />
3 Blot excess Scaling Fluid from client’s skin and form finger mitts.<br />
4 Ask client <strong>to</strong> brea<strong>the</strong> through his/her mouth and anchor right thumb on right<br />
bridge of <strong>the</strong> nose. Stand on opposite side of <strong>the</strong> face that is being extracted.<br />
5 Place index finger on <strong>the</strong> edge of <strong>the</strong> left nostril and push upwards. With left<br />
index finger, push <strong>to</strong>ward <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r finger <strong>to</strong> force <strong>the</strong> nostril outward.<br />
6 Wiggle fingers back and forth <strong>to</strong> gently extract comedones.<br />
7 Repeat on left side of <strong>the</strong> nose.<br />
8 On flat areas of <strong>the</strong> face, stretch <strong>the</strong> skin with index fingers, parallel <strong>to</strong> each<br />
o<strong>the</strong>r, and mound <strong>the</strong> skin between <strong>the</strong> fingers and wiggle back and forth <strong>to</strong><br />
gently extract comedones.<br />
9 Remove Scaling Fluid residue from client’s skin with damp sponges,<br />
cus<strong>to</strong>mized with prescribed Botanical Mixer. Wipe with Post<br />
Extraction Solution.<br />
10 Proceed with massage portion of treatment.<br />
