If this resalted in any missing data points in a seetor, or 'holes', which did not meet the SNR criteria, the estimate computd from the sector was not used in the comparison. A regression analysis arss then applied to the drifter and radar computed current components in order to study the correlation between the two estimates.
Chapter 5 Results and Discussion 5.1 Introduction The r dts from the application of the data analysis procedures outlined in Chapter 4 are p-ted and discussed. T he are partitioned as two distinct sections, one for the direct radial and one for the -tar current comparisons. The results from the direct radial surface current comparison are presented in the Fmt section of this chapter. This k the fundamental mmpariwn since it illustrates the radar's ability to directly monitor the radial component of the surf- current m the vicmity of a drifter estimate. The results presented are from the analysis of the three drifter/radar datssets, both simulated and aetuai. Next, the results from the vector surface current algorithm are presented. How- ever, it was not deemed n- to provide a cornparkon from all three drifter datsetr, as was done in the direct radial current comparison, since comparisons showing both current components, with varying algorithm parameters. muld only clutter the thesis with redundant graphs and tables.
