our rich and varied history, from Beringian fossils and the legacy
of the Klondike Gold Rush to the vibrant stories of Yukon’s
First Nations people.
History comes alive through an
interpretive tour of Dawson City – YG
Living History
The lives of long ago people and more recent pioneers will inspire
you to discover the history of our First Nations, early prospectors,
Klondike Gold Rush and other chapters of our past. Immerse
yourself in historical and contemporary First Nation culture at
the interpreted Forty Mile and Fort Selkirk historic sites, or enter
the lives of ordinary Yukon people through photo and artifact
collections in our museums and cultural centres. Stand in the
shadow of a full-size woolly mammoth replica; lay your arm along
its enormous tusk. Or put yourself right in the story, back to the
heady days of the Klondike, by walking the streets of Dawson City.
Let our heritage inspire your dreams and bring them to life.
Then go and tell your own story.
Accessible by boat, Fort Selkirk is one of Yukon’s most well-preserved
historic sites. It has long been a gathering place for the Northern Tutchone
and was also a key location for transportation, trade and settlement – YG
