Moose Country
Watch for moose! The first 15 km of
the Silver Trail past Stewart Crossing is
a protected moose calving area. Slow
down and watch for moose that
frequent the swampy meadows
bordering the Silver Trail.
Signpost on Keno Hill
This is a photo opportunity you don’t
want to miss! Visitors to Keno enjoy unique
access to alpine areas, including the drive
up to the signpost on Keno Hill. This
famous milepost notes distances to cities
around the world. The view alone is worth
a visit and, because the 10-km road goes
right to the summit, almost anyone can get
there to enjoy it. Watch for marmots and
pikas on Keno Hill—there are few places in
the Yukon where you can easily observe
these animals.
Mayo Riverfront
Here visitors find viewing platforms, a
commemorative cairn and riverfront trails
along the Mayo and Stewart rivers. The
2.5-km Prince of Wales Trail starts at Binet
House Museum and connects to the Trans
Canada Trail system. In summer, Stewart
Landing upriver is busy with float planes
ferrying travellers to and from the
backcountry. Across the Stewart River, the
First Nation of Na-Cho Nyäk Dun is doing
restoration work at its old village site, with
tours planned for the future.
