3.7 Extraction of volatile constituents of F. ancylantha tea leaves
In each extraction method, extraction was done until an adequate amount of sample
required for analysis was collected.
3.7.1 Hydrodistillation and solvent extraction of F. ancylantha tea leaves
Dried F. ancylantha leaves (50 g) were placed in the still (1 L), double distilled water
(500 ml) and antibumping granules added to the still. Distillation was carried out in a
clevenger apparatus for 4 hrs and 22 minutes. Leaves were removed after distillation and
replaced with fresh leaves (50 g). The water was also replaced with double distilled water
(500 ml). Essential oil was not removed since the quantity was too small. Distillation was
done for 3 hours and 5 minutes with the essential oil collecting in the same clevenger
apparatus as the first oil. The leaves were removed after distillation and replaced with
fresh leaves (50 g). Water was also replaced with double distilled water (500 ml).

in the same appatus. Distillation was carried out three times on separate leaf samples so
