¾ aside from the nFL’s recent expansion<br />
additions (Baltimore, Carolina, houston<br />
and Jacksonville), the nine meetings<br />
between the <strong>Lions</strong> and Bills is the<br />
fewest number of games the <strong>Lions</strong> have<br />
played against any opponent.<br />
¾ Two of the nine games have been played<br />
on Thanksgiving day, with the <strong>Lions</strong><br />
winning both outings. detroit won the<br />
first Turkey day game between the two<br />
clubs 27-14 november 25, 1976 and the<br />
second Thanksgiving day affair 35-21<br />
november 24, 1994.<br />
¾ in the 1976 meeting, o.J. Simpson<br />
put on one of the greatest individual<br />
performances in pro football history as<br />
he rushed for a then-nFL record 273<br />
yards. Simpson’s historic Thanksgiving<br />
day performance wasn’t enough as the<br />
<strong>Lions</strong> prevailed 27-14.<br />
¾ Bills’ owner ralph C. Wilson grew up<br />
in detroit and at one time was a <strong>Lions</strong>’<br />
shareholder. he attended the University<br />
of Michigan law school, is the Chairman<br />
of ralph C. Wilson industries and<br />
resides in grosse Pointe Shores, Mich.<br />
¾ The <strong>Lions</strong> and Bills have met each other<br />
in the preseason each year since 2002,<br />
including last preseason on aug. 30<br />
with the <strong>Lions</strong> winning 38-32. overall,<br />
the teams have played 32 times in<br />

¾ The first two head coaches in dolphins’<br />
history both had ties to detroit. george<br />
Wilson coached the dolphins from<br />
1966-69. he was an assistant with the<br />
<strong>Lions</strong> from 1949-56 and was the <strong>Lions</strong>’<br />
head coach from 1957-64. Wilson was<br />
at the helm when the <strong>Lions</strong> won their<br />
last championship in 1957. don Shula<br />
was the dolphins’ head coach from<br />
1970-95, and was an assistant under<br />
Wilson with the <strong>Lions</strong> from 1960-62.<br />
¾ The first three of Miami’s triumphs<br />
over the <strong>Lions</strong> clinched aFC eastern<br />
division titles for the dolphins (in 1973,<br />
1979 and 1994).<br />
¾ detroit’s win over Miami in 1985 was<br />
a historic one for the <strong>Lions</strong>. The win<br />
marked the first time in nFL history<br />
that a club had beaten the Super Bowl<br />
participants from the previous year in<br />
back-to-back weeks (the <strong>Lions</strong> had<br />
edged the Super Bowl XiX champion<br />
San Francisco 49ers 23-21 only seven<br />
days earlier).<br />
¾ in their last trip to Miami in 2010,<br />
detroit overcame a 27-17 fourth quarter<br />
deficit for a 34-27 victory, the <strong>Lions</strong>’<br />
first against the dolphins in Miami. LB<br />
deandre Levy intercepted a pass and<br />
returned it 30 yards for a touchdown<br />
with 2:11 remaining to give detroit<br />
