SUMMARY
The Tennessee Titans hosted the Detroit Lions for a wild ride that ended in a Titans
victory QB Matthew Stafford looked to TE Brandon Pettigrew for the score on the
first drive, but good coverage had K Jason Hanson booting a 47 yard field goal
The drive went for 9 plays, 39 yards and 3:22 Titans were up QB Jake Locker
passed to WR Kenny Britt for 7 yards, WR Kendall Wright for 4, then TE Jared
Cook for 2 Another 5 yard gain from Wright had the Titans 3rd-and-3 at the Titans
38 Locker pulled out a 17 yard pass to Britt to get the 1st-and-10 to the Lions
45 A bad snap caused Lions DT Nick Fairley to recover the fumble for a turnover
Leshoure had the action on the first three plays of the drive and gained 15 yards
An incomplete pass to Pettigrew and a 4 yard pass to WR Titus Young set the
Lions up for another field goal, this one from 53 yards out The Lions were up six
after the 6 play, 19 yard drive Tennessee answered with a field goal after coverage
from CB Chris Houston broke up a pass from Locker to Britt at the Detroit 13 On
the next drive, a 17 yard reception by Johnson was first ruled complete, and then
reversed on the third down P Ben Graham punted for 38 yards The Titans ran
a trick play on the punt return with RB Darius Reynaud throwing a reverse pass

went three-and-out with Hanson filling in to punt due to injury After an enforced

in two plays The Titans then held the Lions to another field goal in 13 plays, 65
yards and 6:30 Detroit defense had Tennessee at three-and-out for the next drive,
including a penalty to improve the Lions field position No first downs had Hanson
punting again At the end of the half, Bironas was in on the kick for a 38 yard field
goal after 70 yards, 9 plays and two penalties on Detroit At the start of the third,
the Titans were held to a field goal and missed Leshoure came in for a 1 yard
rushTD Johnson caught three passes for 55 yards and Pettigrew had 1 catch for
1 yard on the 69-yard, 8 play drive Titans came up short again with a field goal
attempt Penalties and only one first down forced the Lions to settle for three In the
following Tennessee drive, Houston forced a fumble and Levy recovered Stafford
executed a 3 yard TD pass and a two point conversion both to Burleson in 9 plays
for 46 yards as a result Directly after the Lions go-head score Reynaud had a 105
yard touchdown kick return The score was tied at 27-27 Detroit punted Locker
reacted with a 71 yard pass to WR Nate Washington for a touchdown With the
ball back, Stafford moved down the field until Pettigrew was stripped of the ball
by CB Alterraun Verner, who ran it back for a 72 yard touchdown Lions QB Shaun
Hill came in at 1:16 due to injury and sought Johnson in the end zone for a 3 yard
touchdown Hanson kicked 19 yards onside and S Amari Speivey recovered for a
turnover Hill threw a Hail Mary pass to Young for a 46 yard touchdown to tie at
0:00 In OT, the Titans scored three after a long 13 play, 72 yard drive Hill took the

SUMMARY
The first NFC North contest of the Lions’ 2012 season launched with a big 105 yard
opening kickoff return courtesy of Vikings WR Percy Harvin and a PAT from rookie K
Blair Walsh after 12 seconds had elapsed in the game QB Matthew Stafford led the
Lions offensive retaliation with an attempted deep pass to WR Calvin Johnson that
was incomplete but drew two penalties on the defense: one for pass interference
and one for off sides The penalties moved the Lions 36 yards, Stafford gained 1 and
RB Mikel Leshoure also had 1 On the 4th and 8 K Jason Hanson booted a 40 yard
field goal 4 plays and 58 yards Vikings RB Adrian Peterson had a 12 yard run for a
first down, but DE Cliff Avril tackled Harvin on the reverse play for -3 WR Jerome
Simpson had a first down, but another tackle for loss of yard by LB DeAndre Levy
had the Vikings in a third down situation An incomplete pass had P Chris Kluwe
in to punt RB Stefan Logan had a gain of 9 yards on the punt return to set the
Lions up at the Detroit 19 TE Brandon Pettigrew and RB Mikel Leshoure were able
to gain two first downs on the drive, but a loss of 3 yards on Leshoure’s carry on
the 2 and 13 and Stafford getting sacked for -6 put Detroit in a far out position to
keep the drive alive Pettigrew had a 15 yard reception but was short 4 for a first
down P Nick Harris punted it 42 yards Lions S Ricardo Silva stepped it up on the
successive drive with two tackles halting the Vikings before a pass interference
penalty on CB Bill Bentley gave Minnesota 31 yards On the 3rd and 2 Ponder’s
pass was complete to Harvin but brought down by CB Chris Houston for a 4th and
4, forcing Walsh to complete a field goal from 49 yards out in 7 plays, 60 yards,
3:53 With Logan on the kick return, Detroit sat 1st in 10 at the 20, but soon saw
the 24 after a short pass to Leshoure for 3rd and 6 A Johnson 7 yard reception
had the Lions with a first, but a tackle for a 5 yard loss on Leshoure’s carry set
Detroit too far back to produce a score after two short receptions from WR Nate
Burleson and Johnson respectively Harris punted 51 yards A false start ushered
in the next drive, followed by Peterson chipping away at the field with an 18 yard
gain and two more plays for 4 yards each Harvin got the Vikings to the 48 after
a 17 yard pass and was taken down by Levy Another pass interference penalty
on Bentley moved the chains 26 yards Directly after Harvin had an additional 14
yard gain, then a single yard gain Ponder was sacked at the Detroit 9 by DE Kyle
Vanden Bosch and forced a Minnesota chip shot field goal in 11 plays, 82 yards
The Lions scored a 31 yard field goal on the answering drive in 14 plays, 67 yards,
an offensive false start penalty and 6:28 Stafford was sacked by DE Jared Allen at
the MIN 13 for -5 yards, and the last two plays before Hanson came in to kick were
would-be touchdown catches if not for drops by Johnson and Pettigrew Detroit
defense were up to hold the score to 6-13 before the end of the half Avril was just
shy of an interception on the first play; Ponder was sacked in the backfield with
a split sack between DT Ndamukong Suh and Avril for -10 yards on the third play
and Houston broke up a pass on the 3rd and 20 LB Stephen Tulloch held Peterson
to 3 and had Kluwe in to punt again on the 4th and 17 After no gains and two
incomplete passes in the first drive of the second half, Harris punted 41 yards to
have CB Marcus Sherels return it 77 yards for a touchdown The only other score
of the game came late in the fourth with Stafford on the quarterback sneak for 1
yard after 11 plays and 75 yards On the Lions’ final drive at 1:42 left in the game,
Stafford moved the ball 37 yards with a 9 yard reception from Pettigrew, 11 from
RB Joique Bell and 17 from Johnson, but also had three incomplete passes and
suffered two sacks in a row in the last two plays of the game for -12 yards The
Lions left Ford Field with a 1-3 record going into their bye week
