¾ detroit opened their series <strong>vs</strong>. the<br />
Patriots with a 34-7 victory September<br />
26, 1971 in Schaefer Stadium (renamed<br />
Foxboro Stadium). Steve owens scored<br />
two touchdowns for the <strong>Lions</strong>, including<br />
a 74-yard touchdown catch from greg<br />
Landry. The <strong>Lions</strong> also scored a<br />
defensive touchdown as Mike Lucci<br />
returned an interception 25 yards<br />
for a score.<br />
¾ The fastest touchdown in <strong>Lions</strong>’ history<br />
was scored against the Patriots. Willie<br />
Clay (who later joined the Patriots as a<br />
free agent) recovered a new england<br />
fumble on the opening kickoff and<br />
returned it 15 yards for a touchdown<br />
only 11 seconds into the game on<br />
September 12, 1993.<br />
¾ in the 1993 matchup, detroit edged<br />
new england 19-16 in overtime. The<br />
win gave the <strong>Lions</strong> their first 2-0 start<br />
since 1985, and was clinched on Jason<br />
hanson’s fourth field goal of the game,<br />

¾ The <strong>Lions</strong> completed their first<br />
undefeated home season since<br />
1962 with a 34-20 win over the Jets<br />
december 8, 1991.<br />
¾ detroit claimed a memorable 13-10<br />
decision over the Jets at the Silverdome<br />
december 21, 1997 in a game in which<br />
the winner qualified for the playoffs<br />
and the loser was eliminated. rB Barry<br />
Sanders’ 184 yards rushing in the<br />
contest made him only the third player<br />
in nFL history to eclipse the 2,000-yard<br />
mark in a season. The noise was so<br />
boisterous at the sold-out Silverdome<br />
near the end of the game that players<br />
reported the turf actually vibrating<br />
beneath their feet. Unfortunately,<br />
<strong>Lions</strong>’ LB reggie Brown suffered a<br />
career-ending neck injury in the fourth<br />
quarter of the game.<br />
¾ The <strong>Lions</strong> defeated the Jets 10-7 at<br />
the Meadowlands december 17, 2000<br />
in the <strong>Lions</strong>’ final road game of the<br />
season. detroit’s lone touchdown was<br />
a fumble recovery in the endzone by g<br />
