Lions QB Matthew Stafford entered the 2012 season coming off
of one of the greatest seasons by a Lions quarterback in team
history. In 2011, he was 421-of-663 (63.5 pct.) for 5,038 yards, 41
touchdowns and 16 interceptions and had a passer rating of 97.2.
Stafford was one of three NFL quarterbacks last season, along
with Saints QB Drew Brees and Patriots QB Tom Brady, to finish
in the top five of all six major passing categories. He has followed
that us and once against among the NFL’s best as he is ranked
fourth in passing yards (4,252) and second in completions (374).
¾ Stafford’s 264 yards on 27-of-45 passing in Week 14 at Green
Bay (12/9) put him at 4,006 yards on the season, marking the
first time in franchise history a quarterback has 4,000 passing
yards through the first 13 games of the season.
• By reaching 4,000 yards this year, Stafford became the
second passer in team history to throw for 4,000 yards in
two seasons (QB Jon Kitna, 2006-07).
• With 27 pass completions at Green Bay, Stafford passed
QB Scott Mitchell (323 in 2012) for the fourth-most singleseason
pass completions in Lions history.
¾ With 27 pass completions in Week 13 vs. Indianapolis, Stafford
surpassed 1,000 career completions in 41 games. He became
the third passer in team history to register 1,000 pass completions
(Bobby Layne, 1,074; Scott Mitchell, 1,049). Stafford now
has 1,002 career completions.
• He also passed QB Joey Harrington (986) for third place on
the Lions all-time career completions list.
• He reached 1,000 pass completions the fastest in Lions’
history by doing so in his 41st career game. Layne reached
1,000 completions in 86 games and Mitchell accomplished
this in 55 games.
• Stafford has hit the 300 completions mark (now with 350
completions) for the season and has become the second
player in team history to complete 300 passes in two
seasons (Jon Kitna, 2006-07).
¾ With 313 passing yards vs. Indianapolis, Stafford increased his
season total to 3,742 and reached 3,500 yards in the first 12
games of the season for the second consecutive year. Throwing
for 3,500 yards in the first 12 games of a season is a franchise
record and Stafford is the only player in team history to accomplish
this feat.
• With 313 yards, Stafford (3,742) has thrown for the most
yards through the first 12 games of any season in team
history. He broke his own record of 3,527 yards set last
year.
¾ Stafford was 31-of-61 for 441 yards and threw two touchdowns
in Week 12 vs. Houston on Thanksgiving Day (11/22),
