Report of the Commission on Equitable Compensation:<br />

Bishop Gwinn recognized Rev. Para Drake, Chair of the Commission on Equitable<br />

Compensation to bring the report found on pages 20-21 in the North Carolina <strong>Conference</strong><br />

Christian Advocate - June <strong>2012</strong>. Rev. Drake highlighted three recommendations to be<br />

approved: Vacation recommendation, increase in the base salary for full-time and student<br />

appointments, and supplemental compensation grants for years of service. Rev. Drake<br />

moved for the adoption of Section 1, paragraph E, of the report. Bishop Gwinn recognized<br />

Ken Ripley (RM - Spring Hope) who made an amendment proposing a change in 1E to<br />

2 weeks of vacation and 2 days off per week. Bishop Gwinn recognized Neal Salter (BU<br />

- Emmanuel) who spoke against the amendment. A vote was called on the amendment.<br />

Before the vote was taken, Bishop Gwinn recognized Para Drake, chair of the Commission<br />

on Equitable Compensation who spoke against the Ripley amendment. Bishop Gwinn then<br />

called for a vote on the amendment and it was defeated. Bishop Gwinn then called for a vote<br />

to adopt Sections A, B, C, D & E under #1 of the report of the Commission on Equitable<br />

Compensation and it was adopted. Rev. Drake moved for the adoption of Section 3 and it<br />

was adopted. Rev. Drake then moved the adoption of the entire report. The vote was taken<br />

and the entire report was approved by the Annual <strong>Conference</strong>.<br />

Report of the <strong>Conference</strong> Board of Trustees:<br />

Bishop Gwinn recognized Ferrell Blount, Chair of <strong>Conference</strong> Board of Trustees to bring the<br />

report from the Board of Trustees which is found on the Annual <strong>Conference</strong> <strong>2012</strong> webpage<br />

at the <strong>NC</strong>CUMC website. Mr. Blount moved for the adoption of the report. The vote was<br />

taken and the report was adopted by the Annual <strong>Conference</strong>. Bishop Gwinn thanked the<br />

finance team for their work and they received a standing ovation.<br />

The Annual <strong>Conference</strong> was then invited to remain standing and sing the third stanza of the<br />

hymn He Lives.<br />

Statistician’s Report:<br />

Bishop Gwinn invited the Rev. George Speake, <strong>Conference</strong> Statistician, to bring the report of<br />

the Statistician’s Office. Rev. Speake reported a total of 231,269 members at the end of 2011.<br />

This reflects a decrease of 241 over the previous year. The average worship attendance in 2011<br />

was 81,257 which reflects is a decrease of 704 over the previous year. The full report can be<br />

found on the Annual <strong>Conference</strong> <strong>2012</strong> webpage at the <strong>NC</strong>CUMC website. Bishop Gwinn<br />

thanked Rev. Speake for the report.<br />

Camping and Retreat Ministries:<br />

Bishop Gwinn invited Dail Ballard to make a report on behalf of the Camping & Retreat<br />

Ministries. Noise makers were distributed and used whenever she said the word “celebrate”<br />

throughout her presentation. Bishop Gwinn thanked Ms. Ballard for her noisy report on<br />

behalf of the <strong>Conference</strong> Camping & Retreat Ministries.<br />

Witness Moment:<br />

Bishop Gwinn invited David Goehring (RA - Highland) to share a witness moment of what<br />

God is doing at Highland UMC.
