William F. Williams<br />

1943 - 2011<br />

William F. Williams (Bill) was born in Ellerbe, <strong>NC</strong> on<br />

November, 1943.<br />

He died on September 12, 2011 at his home in Aberdeen, <strong>NC</strong>.<br />

A service to celebrate his life was held on September 16, 2011,<br />

at Pinebluff United Methodist Church where he was serving<br />

as retired Elder in the United Methodist <strong>Conference</strong>. The<br />

Reverend Dr. Reginald Ponder, District Superintendent of the<br />

Sanford District, officiated at the service.<br />

Bill was the son of the late Carrie Hicks and William L. “Bill”<br />

Williams. Following a ten year career with United Telephone Company, Bill entered the<br />

Methodist Ministry attending Sandhills Community College and Pfeiffer College where he<br />

graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Philosophy. He earned a Master of Divinity<br />

degree from Duke University and was ordained Elder of The United Methodist Church<br />

on June 19, 1988. He served United Methodist churches in the Sandhills Circuit, West<br />

Rockingham, Sanford, Atlantic, Lillington, Troy, and Pinebluff.<br />

Bill was known for his deep love for the Scriptures and his scholarly approach to the study<br />

of them. His evangelical and lively delivery of his sermons made a compelling defense of the<br />

Gospel. Bill was a quiet individual with a wry sense of humor. He made many friends at the<br />

churches he served and was always ready to witness to his faith.<br />

Bill is survived by his wife, Edna, their son, Bill Scott and his wife, Lia, and three<br />

grandchildren, Isabel, Lee, and Catherine, one brother Preston and wife, Taska and<br />

their two sons.<br />

Neal E. Wingfield<br />

1943 - <strong>2012</strong><br />

Reverend Neal E. Wingfield was born in Lynchburg, Virginia<br />

on October 10, 1943 and died in Wilmington, North Carolina<br />

on January 15, <strong>2012</strong>.<br />

He is survived by his wife, Page L. Wingfield of Goldsboro, <strong>NC</strong>,<br />

his son Joseph Wingfield and wife, Heather of Raleigh, <strong>NC</strong> and<br />

his daughter Stella Wingfield Cook and husband, Bradley of<br />

Durham, <strong>NC</strong>.<br />

His Memorial Service was held at Salem UMC in Goldsboro,<br />

<strong>NC</strong> with Reverend Sandy Schaller, Reverend Randy Maynard,<br />

and Reverend Francis Daniel officiating.<br />

Following active duty in the U. S. Navy, Neal returned to his studies at Campbell College. He<br />

and Page were married in January 1970. Six months later, he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s
