Executive Session for Clergy<br />

The <strong>2012</strong> Executive Session for Clergy was held in the State Ballroom of the Marriott City<br />

Center in Raleigh, <strong>NC</strong>. The Bishop called the Executive Session to order at 10:03 a.m.<br />

Bishop Gwinn recognized David Marlette and Kristy Farber from First, Cary UMC who led<br />

the Executive Session in a time of singing. Bishop Gwinn thanked David and Kristy for their<br />

leadership in music. Bishop Gwinn introduced Bishop Paul Leeland from Alabama-West<br />

Florida <strong>Conference</strong>. Bishop Gwinn welcomed Bishop Leeland back home to <strong>NC</strong> and he was<br />

given a round of applause by the Executive Session.<br />

Bishop Gwinn reminded the body of the house rules regarding voting and asked the body<br />

to grant permission for visitors to be present during the Executive Session. The motion was<br />

approved by the Executive Session and permission was granted.<br />

Passing of Clergy Character<br />

Bishop Gwinn called upon the district superintendents to present the report on the<br />

character of the clergy in their districts. The Bishop referred to paragraph 362 of The<br />

<strong>2012</strong> Book of Discipline with regards to the report of the character of the clergy. Before<br />

the superintendents gave their reports the Bishop passed on the character of the district<br />

superintendents declaring them to be blameless. Bishop Gwinn asked the body to approve of<br />

their conduct and the body approved.<br />

Gray Southern, reporting for Bill Gattis in the Burlington District, reported that are<br />

blameless in their character and administration. The Durham District as well, Gray Southern<br />

reported for, blameless in their character and administration. Gray Southern also reported<br />

for the Goldsboro District, all the clergy are blameless in their character and administration.<br />

Richard Stone, Elizabeth City District Superintendent, reported that one pastor in the<br />

Elizabeth City District was under complaint and they are following the Book of Discipline<br />

to resolve the complaint, but nothing against the character or the administration of the other<br />

pastors in the district. The clergy of the remaining districts are reported to be blameless in<br />

their character and administration. Bishop Gwinn asked the body to approve of this report of<br />

the District Superintendents. The body approved the report.<br />

Board of Ordained Ministry Report<br />

Bishop Gwinn had the members of the Board of Ordained Ministry stand and asked the<br />

body to lift them in prayer. Bishop Gwinn recognized Ned Hill, chair of the <strong>Conference</strong><br />

Board of Ordained Ministry, thanked him for his service and called on him to make the<br />

report on behalf of the <strong>Conference</strong> Board of Ordained Ministry. Bishop Gwinn and Rev.<br />

Hill also expressed appreciation to Reverend Tim Russell in his work as the Administrative<br />

Assistant and Linda Bourey, the Administrative Assistant to the Ministerial Relations<br />

Director. She received a round of applause by the Executive Session. The first 16 pages
