CORE
BUSINESSES
In 2009–10, our 4,415 retail outlets in communities across the nation continued to provide a
diverse range of products and services that connect customers, businesses and government.
Our letters business delivered mail to more than 10.7 million Australian addresses, speedily
and accurately – achievements that were also at the forefront of our parcel and logistics
operations, both domestically and internationally.
We will continue to carry out these critical functions well into the future, but 2009–10 was the
last year in which Australia Post’s operations were organised into the three core businesses
of delivering letters, handling parcels and operating retail outlets. This structure has served
us well for many years, but we are adapting to a changing marketplace by reorganising
operations into four strategic business units. With the signifi cant addition of a dedicated
e-Services strategic business unit, from 2010–11 our activities will continue to centre on our
three core capabilities, but with enhanced service and productivity.
