Richard Sanger, grandfather of Emma Sanger was born in<br />

Middletown, Com*., Dec. 26, 1769, Rachel Butler his wife<br />

was born in Farmingham, Mass., April 10. 1774. They were<br />

married Dec. 31, 1797; she died March 2. 1854; Gerry their<br />

son was born Nov. 11, 1798.<br />

Justus was the founder of the Knights of Pythias. He<br />

died at Lima, Ohio. Dec. 9, 1889. The body lay in state<br />

there on the iotli guarded by a detail of Knights from the<br />

local lodge. A large number of telegrams were received<br />

that day from all parts of the United States expressing sympathy<br />

for the two daughters and friends. Delegations from<br />

20 lodges in Ohio and Indiana were present to take part in<br />

the memorial services. At midnight a special left Lima for<br />

Utica. X. Y., carrying the remains; stops were made at Cleve-<br />

land, Buffalo and Syracuse to allow Sir Knights to pay their<br />

respects. He was buried by the side of wife in the the family<br />

lot in Forest Hill cemetery. Utica. N. Y.<br />

•'THE RATHBOXE MONUMENT/'<br />

The Supreme Lodge of the Knights of Phythias. through<br />

its committee and Supreme Chancellor, has awarded to Hoffmann<br />

& Prochazha. designers and sculptors of this city, the<br />

contract to erect the <strong>Rathbone</strong> monument at Utica. X. Y.<br />

The sculptural work will be under the immediate supervision<br />

of G. Moretti. Children.<br />

Mass., March 23, 1796; married Mary Shumway Wilson,<br />

daughter of Joseph and Lydia Wilson. June 15, [830; she<br />

was born at Lawrenceville, Pa.. April 10. 1809 and died Aug.<br />

21, 1878. He was admitted to the bar of the Supreme Court<br />

of New York at Utica in 1820. and the same year settled at<br />

Lawrenceville. Pa., residing with his father until he remar-<br />

ried. In 1840 he removed to Blossburg. where he establish-<br />

ed himself in his profession. He practised law in several<br />
