), born March 27, 1758. in Coventry; lived in Richland,
Otsego Co.,- X. Y. He was a soldier in theRevolutionary
war and it is said that in one engagement, being shot through
the neck, was left for dead on the field. His captain sent six
men to bring him oft"; they found him alive and pressing each
opening to stop the flow of blood. He was removed to a
place of safety and finally recovered. His mother, a
Quaker, on his return home said to him: ''You should be
thankful to the Lord for the preservation of your life," whereupon
his reply was "rather to the captain of the volunteers,
who brought me away." He married Robinson: they
