died May 19. 1872: "buried in First Parish (Universalis!)<br />

cemetery at Stoughton. He married, second, Madora<br />

Peaselee of Newton, X. H.. Dec. 31, 1877. His father was<br />

of English descent, his mother German, his mother's mother<br />

was Scotch and was descended from John Guild Scott, who<br />

settled in Leadman, Mass.. two centuries ago. Jabez was<br />

county commissioner in 1886; served in Co. A. 4th Massachusetts<br />

Vol. in the civil war, Sept. 17, 1862, reenlisted<br />

Aug. 17. 1864. in 23d unattached Co.. Mass. Infantry Vols.<br />

He is now (1898) in the real estate and insurance business<br />

and is justice of peace. He is a man of excellent abilities<br />

and considerable means. His father was a farmer of means<br />

and much respected. Children:
