Conn.. May 10, 1788: married Margaret Walker. ;<br />

she was born in 'Maryland. Jan. 2, 1800. He left Howard,<br />

Jan. 31, 1834. for Jefferson Grove. Ogle Co.. Ills., with their<br />

team and wagon and traveled slowly. They stopped in<br />

Michigan while Benjamin and his sons pushed on to Rock<br />

River Valley, Ills. They staked out a claim and built a log<br />

house twelve (12) feet square in which was their future home.<br />

They settled there July 26.<br />

was hauled to Chicago, Ills., eighty miles distant; their provisions<br />

Chicago (then Fort Dearborn): a small place then, no schooL<br />

a few neighboring families built a little cabin, eight by ten<br />

feet. They hired Alary, the eldest daughter of Benjamin to<br />

teach school at twelve shillings a week. He died Sept. 13.<br />
