in 1853. He married, Oct 14, 1869, in Alemeda county,<br />

Cal., Sarah Jane Elliott, who was born in DeKalb county.<br />

111., March n, 1850. Her parents. Joshua and Minerva<br />

(Leonard) Elliott, were natives of Ohio. Children:<br />

2. Lydia Minerva, b. fan. 19, 1876.<br />

July 2, 1796. He married, March 25, 1823. Julia Howe<br />

Putnam, a great granddaughter of Gen. Isreal Putnam, of<br />

revolutionary fame; she died April 6. 1824, and he married,<br />

second, Nov. 3, 1825, Catherine H. Putnam, who died in<br />

March, 1885. He resided in New York city for a time,<br />

but in early manhood removed to Ohio, and for a number<br />

of years lived in Columbus; he afterward settled on a farm<br />

near Belpre. where he lived until 1856. He died at the<br />

home of his sister, Elizabeth Coon, at Bernadotte. 111.<br />
