K. I., and commenced the manufacture of satinets. The<br />

business proved successful, and at the time of his death he<br />

was one of the foremost woolen manufacturers in Xew England.<br />

His success was well deserved, for it is said that not<br />

an ounce of shoddy was ever used in his mills. Mr. Harris<br />

was twice married. His first wife was Rachel Farnum. the<br />

mother of Mrs. Rathbun: she died, and he married Addie<br />

Metcalf, who is still living. David Harris, the father of Edward,<br />

was horn June 17. 17S0; he married. Dec. 31. [800,<br />

Lydia Streeter. who was the mother of Edward: she died.<br />

and he married Hannah Warrington.<br />

Oscar Jenks Rathbun was an only child. He was for a<br />

short time engaged in the mercantile trade, hut. the last<br />

twenty-odd years of his life were devoted to the manufacuring<br />

business, and at he time of his death he was interested<br />

in several manufactories in Woonsocket and vicinity. In<br />

1RS6 he was elected Lieutenant-Governor of Rhode Island.<br />

He dropped dead of heart disease at the union depot in<br />

Providence in February, 1892. He had been doing business<br />

m the city all day. attending at noon the annual meeting<br />

of the stockholders of the Providence & Worcester Railroad<br />

Company, of which he was re-elected a director.<br />

while at the meeting he was in unusually fine spirits and in<br />

a reminiscent mood remarked that he had attended the annual<br />

meetings of the corporation for fortv vears without<br />
