111.. . 1833. He was grand nephew of Daniel
Boone the first settler of Kentucky. He was born Dec. 8.
1808. in Fayette Co., and died Jan. 24. 1882. in Chicago.
111. He served in the Black Hawk war as surgeon with the
rank of captain and was an eminent physician of Chicago
forty years and especially noted for his bravery and devotion
during the cholera epidemic of 1849. which continued
seven successive summers. His Boone cholera powders
were very efficient and very widely used. He was Alderman
and then Mayor of Chicago and was the first to enforce
the Sunday law. When war was declared he was the
first man to offer to give a house and lot to the first woman
made a widow through the misfortune of war. This house
and lot was given to the gallant Col. Mulligan's Brigade.
He died Jan. 24. 1883. at the homestead: she died at the
