VA TECH HYDRO IN INDIA
For the past three decades, hydropower
in India has been in the
shadow of thermal power generation.
Of the total installed capacity
of a little above 100,000 MW,
only 25% is accounted for by hydro
and an even lower 14% is actually
contributed by way of generation.
But the power scenario is
changing now.
On May 24, 2003, the Indian
government announced a target of
achieving 50,000 MW additional
hydro capacity by 2017. The plan is
to change the current thermal-hydro
ratio of 75:25 to a more balanced
60:40 in the next ten years.
The trend towards electricity production
from renewable sources
and de-regulation in the power sector
has opened up interesting
prospects for VA TECH HYDRO to
cater to IPPs, state and public sector
utilities, as a "Turnkey Contractor”
for electro-mechanical equipment
of their hydropower projects.

Products and Services of the above
companies are derived from more
than 160 years of experience of
VA TECH HYDRO.
HIB has its factory located at Mandideep,
Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh
and manufactures electric generators,
excitation system and integrated
automation systems for hydro as
well as thermal applications. The
state-of-art facility include a six
axis automatic insulation taping
machine and a Vacuum Pressure
Impregnation (VPI) plant used for insulating
generator windings. These
facilities ensure excellent electrical
and mechanical properties of generator
windings and enable economic
utilization of materials and
long operational life of generators.
HIB is also executing electrical
BOP works for some of its projects.
HIB is also an important source of
generator supplies for other group
companies. Apart from catering for
domestic customer, HIB has executed
export orders for electricals
as well as in-house requirements of
VA TECH HYDRO for third countries.
HIN has a modern manufacturing
facility located at Prithla, Faridabad,
Haryana and manufactures
hydraulic turbines of all types, main
inlet spherical valves, penstock butterfly
valves and digital governing
systems, for compact as well as
medium / large hydro projects. Compact
projects have been undertaken
on turnkey “Water to Wire” basis, as
well as EPC basis, where civil works
are also included. Besides projects
in India, HIN has executed export
orders in Vietnam, Sri Lanka and
Nepal. HIN has also been used as
a manufacturing base for VA TECH
HYDRO group companies to manufacture
and supply Compact turbines
for exports to Turkey, Sweden
