(Formerly ENGL 310) This course for English/Ed<br />

majors emphasizes strategies for taking students<br />

into, through, and beyond the writing process.<br />

Students have many opportunities to plan and to<br />

design writing assignments, to conduct writing<br />

sessions, and to evaluate written composition.<br />

Fiction Writing II 3 credits<br />

(Prerequisite: WRTG 213) Advanced workshop<br />

augments intensive student writing assignments<br />

with theory <strong>of</strong> fiction composition and diverse<br />

examples.<br />

Nonfiction Writing II 3 credits<br />

(Prerequisite: WRTG 214) Advanced workshop<br />

augments intensive student writing assignments<br />

with discussion and analysis <strong>of</strong> creative nonfiction<br />

by various hands.<br />

Play Writing II 3 credits<br />

(Prerequisite: WRTG 215) An advanced workshop<br />

in playwriting which will include intensive reading<br />

and writing, this course will build on skills<br />

acquired in Playwriting I, and encourage students<br />

to explore theatrical styles beyond realism. This<br />

course may be counted toward the <strong>The</strong>atre track,<br />

major, or minor.<br />

Poetry Writing II 3 credits<br />

(Prerequisite: WRTG 216) Advanced workshop on<br />

practice and theory <strong>of</strong> writing poetry. <strong>The</strong> course<br />

encourages extensive reading and intensive writing.<br />

Guided Independent Study Variable credit<br />

A tutorial program open to junior and senior students<br />

who have completed appropriate lower-division<br />

coursework. Context determined by genre and<br />

mentor.
