THE ROBERT L. McDEVITT, K.S.G. AWARD—Income from a fund established in 1977<br />
provides assistance to qualified and deserving Hanley College students. <strong>The</strong> award was established<br />
by Robert L. McDevitt, K.S.G., a Georgetown <strong>University</strong> classmate and long-time friend<br />
<strong>of</strong> the late Rev. Dexter L. Hanley, S.J., who served as president <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> from 1970 to<br />
1975.<br />
JOHN J. AND KATHLEEN MCLAINE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND— John J.<br />
McLaine, Class <strong>of</strong> ’71, established this fund in 1997 to honor his parents. First preference is<br />
given to students from Lackawanna County who are enrolled in the School <strong>of</strong> Management.<br />
THE MONSIGNOR ANDREW J. McGOWAN SCHOLARSHIP—<strong>The</strong> F.M. Kirby<br />
Foundation, Inc., established this award to honor Msgr. McGowan, a U. <strong>of</strong> S. former trustee<br />
and honorary degree recipient. It will be used to assist deserving students who reside in either<br />
Lackawanna or Luzerne County.<br />
THE JOHN P. McLEAN AWARD—Established in 1985 by former trustee, Thomas E.<br />
Sheridan, ’60, and many other alumni, students, family and friends to honor Pr<strong>of</strong>essor John P.<br />
McLean, a School <strong>of</strong> Management faculty member for over 50 years. It is distributed to deserving<br />
accounting students.<br />
CHARLES E. MERRILL AWARD—In 1969, the Charles E. Merrill Trust <strong>of</strong> New York<br />
City made a gift to the <strong>University</strong>. <strong>The</strong> income from this award assists students <strong>of</strong> the Catholic<br />
faith.<br />
THE MARGARET CHORBA MEZICK SCHOLARSHIP FUND—This award was established<br />
by James A. and Mary P. Mezick in honor <strong>of</strong> Mr. Mezick’s mother. <strong>The</strong> award is given<br />
each year to a qualified incoming freshman, with preference given to students from the Mid-<br />
Valley, with demonstrated need.<br />
THE ANGELO H. MONTRONE AWARD—This fund was established by Paul M.<br />
Montrone, ’62, President <strong>of</strong> the Henley Group, Inc., to honor his father. It assists a School <strong>of</strong><br />
Management student who best exemplifies the senior Mr. Montrone’s lifelong dedication to<br />
self-improvement and ethical behavior in business.<br />
DR. LESLIE E. MORGAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND—This fund was established through a<br />
bequest from Dr. Morgan. Annual income from the fund is used to assist persons studying to<br />
become members <strong>of</strong> one <strong>of</strong> the health services pr<strong>of</strong>essions.<br />
THE ROBERT W. MUNLEY MEMORIAL AWARD—This fund was established by<br />
Robert W. Munley, Esq. and Judge James M. Munley as a way <strong>of</strong> honoring their father, Robert<br />
W. Munley. Income from this fund supports deserving young students from Lackawanna<br />
County.<br />
THE MURPHY AWARD—This fund was established in 1957, through a bequest <strong>of</strong> Miss<br />
Margaret Murphy, a retired schoolteacher and lifelong resident <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong>. Margaret and her<br />
sister Katherine made the award “in loving memory <strong>of</strong> our mother, father, and brothers,” to<br />
assist needy and deserving students.<br />
JAMES NASSER FAMILY AWARD—This fund was established in 1986 by Mr. and Mrs.<br />
James R. Nasser. Preference is given to needy students from Lackawanna County.<br />
THE NEPA APICS AWARD—Established in 1987 by Northeastern Pennsylvania Chapter<br />
<strong>of</strong> the American Production and Inventory Control Society for qualified junior or senior students<br />
enrolled in the Operations Management major <strong>of</strong> the School <strong>of</strong> Management and/or active<br />
members <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong> Chapter <strong>of</strong> APICS.<br />
THE MARIAN R. OATES MEMORIAL AWARD—This fund was established in memory<br />
<strong>of</strong> an alumna who passed away in an automobile accident shortly after her 1990 graduation.<br />
Awards from this fund will aid middle-income students from New Jersey.<br />
THE RAYMOND S. O’CONNELL AWARD—Shortly before his death in 1981, an alumnus<br />
<strong>of</strong> St. Thomas College, Raymond S. O’Connell, established a fund for needy students. His<br />
sister, Sara E. O’Connell, completed the gift after Raymond’s death.<br />
FRANK O’HARA AWARD—This award was established in 1988 by friends and family <strong>of</strong><br />
“Mr. <strong>University</strong>,” Frank O’Hara. Mr. O’Hara served in many capacities over a long career with<br />
the <strong>University</strong>. This fund, along with O’Hara Hall, were established in his memory.<br />
