ADMISSION<br />

<strong>The</strong> Admissions Committee <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong> will make the final decision on applications<br />

for admission. In reaching this decision, the committee will consider a number <strong>of</strong> factors:<br />

demonstrated evidence <strong>of</strong> a student’s academic ability, intellectual curiosity, strength <strong>of</strong> character<br />

and motivation; student’s high school record, rank in class, and extracurricular activities; and SAT<br />

scores and recommendations.<br />

STEPS IN MAKING APPLICATION<br />

Request for an application form and all correspondence dealing with admission to the College <strong>of</strong><br />

Arts and Sciences, the J.A. Panuska, S.J. College <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Studies or the School <strong>of</strong><br />

A non-refundable fee <strong>of</strong> $40.00 should accompany the application. Students should apply during<br />

the first semester <strong>of</strong> their senior year <strong>of</strong> high school. November 15th is the early action deadline. For<br />

all applicants other than Physical <strong>The</strong>rapy, early action <strong>of</strong>fers will be made on December 15th. From<br />

that time on, all applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis with a 4 week turn around and a preferred<br />

final application deadline <strong>of</strong> March 1st. All Physical <strong>The</strong>rapy applications must be completed<br />

and received by the early action deadline <strong>of</strong> November 15th for a January 15th decision and a<br />

February 15th priority confirmation.<br />

<strong>The</strong> first two parts <strong>of</strong> the application form should be completed and the entire form given to the<br />

principal or guidance counselor <strong>of</strong> the high school who will forward high school grades and the<br />

completed form to the <strong>University</strong>.<br />

<strong>The</strong> SAT I: Reasoning Tests (College Entrance Examination Board) or the ACT Test (American<br />

College Testing) are required <strong>of</strong> all applicants. <strong>The</strong>se tests should be taken during junior year and/or<br />

senior year <strong>of</strong> high school. During Summer Orientation, the <strong>University</strong> administers its own placement<br />

tests. <strong>The</strong>refore, applicants are not required to take the SAT II.<br />

A non-refundable class reservation fee <strong>of</strong> $150.00 is required <strong>of</strong> all accepted applicants. In addition,<br />

accepted resident freshmen will make a non-refundable room deposit <strong>of</strong> $150.00 upon notice<br />

from the Director <strong>of</strong> Admissions.<br />

REQUIRED HIGH SCHOOL PREPARATION<br />

Students desiring to enroll in any <strong>of</strong> several undergraduate programs <strong>of</strong>fered by the <strong>University</strong><br />

must have completed a total <strong>of</strong> 16 or more high school academic units covering grades 9-12. <strong>The</strong><br />

term “unit” means a high school course taught four or five hours weekly throughout an academic<br />

year <strong>of</strong> 36 weeks duration. Unit requirements and preferred distribution <strong>of</strong> secondary courses are<br />

given in the following table:<br />

* In addition to four units <strong>of</strong> mathematics and single units in biology, chemistry, and physics, occupational<br />

therapy and physical therapy applicants must submit documentation attesting to observation work done in<br />

their chosen field.<br />
