2.14 The LHS is expected to play an important part in delivering the government’s aim of increasing sustainable economic growth, as well as contributing significantly to a number of the fifteen national outcomes. The LHS guidance notes that the following national outcomes have specific relevance to Local Housing Strategies: • National Outcome 7, ‘We have tackled the significant inequalities in Scottish society’. • National Outcome 10, ‘We live in well designed, sustainable places where we are able to access the amenities and services we need’. 2.15 The 2009-2011 Falkirk SOA notes recent achievements in relation to both these national outcomes. Within the Falkirk SOA, National Outcome 10 has been expressed in terms of four local housing outcomes and shows how they are linked to other key strategic documents/priorities/outcomes: • Ensure our housing continues to meet the needs of people who live and may wish to live in our area (Community Plan). • Increase pride and satisfaction with their local community (Fairer Scotland Fund). • Ensure the provision of a range of affordable housing options which meet the needs of local people, including those with specific needs (Local Housing Strategy 04-09). • Improve and maintain the Council’s core housing stock (Local Housing Strategy 04-09). 2.16 These SOA outcomes highlight the close links between housing need, the physical condition of the housing stock and how people feel about their environment and local community. The projects outlined in this SHIP seek in some way to achieve all of the above SOA outcomes. 2.17 Table 1 shows how high level national outcomes link through the various stages of the planning process into local objectives. 14
