While ‘Ali [r] was performing salah early one morning, one of them cowardly attacked him from behind with a poisoned sword and killed him. ‘Ali [r] was sixty three years old when he died. However, because of the efforts of ‘Ali [r] the plans of the hypocrites were not to succeed and the number of Muslims grew and grew after that day.
