for teachers.<br />
As has been <strong>in</strong>dicated, not many of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Christian</strong> boys<br />
possess <strong>the</strong> abihty or have enjoyed sufficient early<br />
advantages to pass <strong>the</strong> matriculation. To those who<br />
do so, more than one course is open. Like all <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>rs<br />
<strong>the</strong>se also are expected, <strong>in</strong> return for <strong>the</strong>ir education,<br />
to serve <strong>the</strong> Mission, and after fur<strong>the</strong>r tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g some<br />
higher posts <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Mission are open to <strong>the</strong>m. The<br />
S.P.G. Theological College at Vepery takes a certa<strong>in</strong><br />
number, and, after a thorough <strong>the</strong>ological tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>re,<br />
<strong>the</strong>y may be orda<strong>in</strong>ed. There are also masterships<br />
<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Nandyal high school for matriculates. Aga<strong>in</strong>,<br />
a medical course is open to <strong>the</strong>m. The medical<br />
posts <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Telugu</strong> Mission have hi<strong>the</strong>rto been<br />
filled from outside, but <strong>the</strong> Mission would gladly wel-<br />
come some of its own pupils, if <strong>the</strong>y were qualified<br />
to fill <strong>the</strong>m.<br />
The Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g College has been fortunate <strong>in</strong>deed to<br />
pass through twenty-seven years without many changes<br />
of management. Mr. Britten, its founder and first pr<strong>in</strong>cipal,<br />
was enabled to govern it for eighteen j^ears. When<br />
<strong>in</strong> 1904 he left it to take <strong>the</strong> pastoral charge of a district,<br />
<strong>the</strong> post of pr<strong>in</strong>cipal fell to Mr. Inman. He had to<br />
reta<strong>in</strong> at <strong>the</strong> same time <strong>the</strong> charge of <strong>the</strong> Nandyal<br />
mission district, and to discharge <strong>the</strong> duties of secretary<br />
to <strong>the</strong> Central Committee of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Telugu</strong> Mission. Never-<br />
<strong>the</strong>less he successfully carried on <strong>the</strong> college ;<br />
but it was<br />
a great relief when, <strong>in</strong> 1907, <strong>the</strong> Rev. A. F. R. Bird<br />
arrived from England and took charge. Of <strong>the</strong> latter it<br />
must suffice here to say that, from his long previous
