half of his people, and <strong>the</strong>n he proposed aga<strong>in</strong> to place<br />
himself under me. But 1 had seen much of <strong>the</strong> unsatis-<br />
factory state of th<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>in</strong> a village where half <strong>the</strong> people<br />
were under me, and <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r half, be<strong>in</strong>g hea<strong>the</strong>n, beyond<br />
my jurisdiction, so my decision still was to wait. More<br />
time elapsed, and <strong>the</strong>n all were of one m<strong>in</strong>d except just<br />
two or three families ;—one of <strong>the</strong>se owned <strong>the</strong> very spot<br />
of ground which I had long ago marked out as <strong>the</strong> site<br />
of <strong>the</strong> future prayer-house.<br />
' I rode over one even<strong>in</strong>g to f<strong>in</strong>d out for myself <strong>the</strong><br />

teacher, " Go back <strong>the</strong>n," I said, " and when you
