3.4 Results<br />

3.4.1 Descriptive analyses <strong>of</strong> the algal community<br />

Data on the various algal variables were modelled b<strong>as</strong>ed on fixed variation<br />

between are<strong>as</strong>, sub-are<strong>as</strong> <strong>and</strong> sites within each sub-area <strong>as</strong> well <strong>as</strong><br />

on variation between depth intervals, substrate composition in depth intervals,<br />

se<strong>as</strong>onal variation <strong>and</strong> year-to-year variation (Table 3.5). Moreover,<br />

the model took into account stoch<strong>as</strong>tic variation due to variation<br />

between sub-samples, diver effects <strong>and</strong> residual variation (Table 3.6). The<br />

next paragraphs describe the different components <strong>of</strong> variation for each<br />

<strong>of</strong> the analysed algal variables.<br />
