90-percentile maybe h<strong>as</strong> more informational value for the sub-element<br />

<strong>phytoplankton</strong> blooms than <strong>phytoplankton</strong> biom<strong>as</strong>s, but for this purpose<br />

its precision should be compared to that <strong>of</strong> other bloom <strong>indicators</strong> (e.g.<br />

Carstensen et al. 2007). Thus, we recommend that the decision to use the<br />

90-percentile <strong>as</strong> indicator for <strong>phytoplankton</strong> biom<strong>as</strong>s in the North E<strong>as</strong>t<br />

Atlantic GIG is revised to a mean indicator. This will also allow for comparison<br />

with results from the Baltic GIG.
