"spirit" transferred to them, even to the facial<br />
expression, voice, etc. Curiously enough, two of the<br />
well-marked cases of alternating personality known<br />
to me are both those of Baptist ministers. One<br />
was a man, the Rev. Ansel Bourne, who was lost,<br />
suddenly disappearing from his town <strong>and</strong> chapel for<br />
two months. The case was investigated by the<br />
S.P.R., who found that he was seized with the belief<br />
that he was a merchant of the name of A. J. Brown.<br />
I never heard whether he had ever known such a<br />
man, or if such a man ever existed. Suffice it to say<br />
that when he disappeared he bought a shop in<br />
another town, stocked it with small wares, <strong>and</strong><br />
carried it on successfully for six weeks. The name<br />
was painted over the door. When found, <strong>and</strong><br />
brought back, he remembered nothing. R. Hodgson,<br />
LL.D., personally examined the evidence <strong>and</strong> found<br />
it absolutely true.<br />

A second case was brought to my notice by Dr.<br />
Lloyd Tuckey, a well-known London specialist, of<br />
another Baptist minister.<br />
Driving home one day, this unfortunate man<br />
was thrown out of his gig on to his head. Being<br />
delicate such an accident was very serious, but<br />
those who brought him home <strong>and</strong> the doctor who<br />
examined him at the time could discover nothing<br />
more than that the minister was naturally stunned<br />
<strong>and</strong> dazed.<br />
He was carefully undressed <strong>and</strong>, after<br />
some liquid food, was placed in bed. He was a<br />
bachelor <strong>and</strong> lived alone with two servants.<br />
