TRUE SPIRITUALISM<br />

A Nasty Sound<br />

I GRANT that, as applied to Christianity, "Spiritualism"<br />

has a nasty sound, but I venture to say<br />

that it is truly descriptive of it. Christianity<br />

essentially spiritual <strong>religion</strong>.<br />

spirit world; <strong>its</strong> God is a Spirit; the Holy Spirit is<br />

the Comforter, the Inspirer, the Guide of every<br />

Christian, <strong>and</strong> the power of his new life. It is,<br />

therefore, a great pity that the lovely word "Spiritualism"<br />

has been so degraded; but now that<br />

"Spiritism" has been invented to describe the<br />

<strong>Modern</strong> Cult, is it too late to restore the other word<br />

to <strong>its</strong> true meaning, <strong>and</strong> to use it in <strong>its</strong> Christian<br />

connection? I hope not.<br />

Anyhow, whether it be called "True Spiritualism<br />

or "True Christianity," I shall endeavour in this last<br />

chapter, which is really rather in the nature of an<br />

appendix, to present what I fear is but little known<br />

to-day, the true spiritual aspect of the Faith..<br />

"spiritual body," which Sir A. Conan Doyle believes<br />

clothes the departed at death, is not put on until the<br />
