ApparcAntly sonic confusion line nristm regarding this, arid in order to clarify the matter the following is proniulgated for the information and guidnncc of all concrrncd, cffectivc December 20, 1932: (a) Signals, loth a. rn. and p. m., for stations not listed in Ixmgraphs 9 and 10 of the circular, “Changes in Airways Service for the Purpose of Effecting Economies”, dattd Novcniber 16, 1932, will includc, in tho order nurr~ed, oiily words for prcwurc and trmporatura ; direction of wind, state of weather, and wind velocity; pressure change and iririxiinuin or minimuin ternpcmture; the, character, and amount of prcciyitution ; thunderstorms. No other words will be transmitted in thew rcports. (b) Signals, both a. m. and p, m ., for the rttations listed in paragraph 0 of the oircular wjll include, in the order 12(17ned, only code word6 for pressure and temperature; direction of wind, fitate of wcather, t~nd wind velocity ; prcssure change and maxinium or minimum tcn~~)eraturc ; precipitation ; thunderstorms; clouds. (c) Signals from stations listed in paragraph 10 of the circular will include the code words listed in paragraph (a) above, in the order nwmed thewin, plus an additional 6-letter word for ceiling, vieibility, and dew point, which will be placcld at the end of the report. The foregoing refers only to signals transmitted from San FranciPco and Chiccyso by ttJctypr, and does not change or nlter my other type of transniission now made. The personnel at those points will “cut” the signals in accordance with the foregoing. Station deeignators will bc uecd for transmimion on the long linc8 instead of station numm. T,) observations, in the regular flignal reports, pressure clianyes will be rclportctl at each of the 4-hourly periods for the three hours iinrnediatrly preceding thc? observations, e. B. t thc pressure change reported in the 4 p. m. 4-hourly obsc~vution would be for three hours beginning at 1 p. in. Undtir this syatein only stations equipped with barographs, or those nialring hourly rqortR, will include this element jn tho 4-hourly reports.
