The temperature to be used Bhould, <strong>of</strong> course, be that <strong>of</strong> the gaR within<br />
the cylinder, <strong>and</strong> it is believed that such temperature can be obtained<br />
quite accurately by attaching a thermometer to the cylinder in such a<br />
way that the bulb will rest against the cylinder <strong>and</strong> allowing it to rernajn<br />
in that position for a few minutes.<br />
TELETYPE MAPS<br />
Much confusion has been experienccd RR a rc~sult <strong>of</strong> receiving copirs <strong>of</strong><br />
teletype maps which do not bear the nihme <strong>of</strong> the station forwarding<br />
such maps to the Central Office in accordance with instructionfl. Station<br />
<strong>of</strong>ficials arc, therefor(., requested to see thnt the name <strong>of</strong> their Rtritioii<br />
is entered on the maps before thcy are forwardcd to the Contra1 Ofiiccl.<br />
Supplies for use in the preparation <strong>of</strong> these mapR, such na copying<br />
ribbons <strong>and</strong> pencils, ditto paper, gelatin rolls, ete., should be requestcad<br />
from the Assistant Communications Supervisors for the district in which<br />
the station is located.<br />

OMISSION OF PILOT-BALLOON OBSERVATIONS<br />

In order that no pilot-balloon observations be omitted, except when<br />
absolutely necossnry, all stations are reminded to follow closely the instructions<br />
in paragraph 82 <strong>of</strong> Circular 0. Special attcntioii is cullcd to<br />
that part <strong>of</strong> the instructions which state8 that an asccmion should be<br />
made within 80 minutes <strong>of</strong> the Rcheduled time, cither brforc or aftvr,<br />
if weather conditions prcvent or are caxprvted to prevent making the<br />
obeervation at the schr~daled timti.<br />

VERIFICATION OF PILOT-BALLOON FORMS<br />
It is noted that Form 1114 ie forwardad to the Central Oflice without<br />
verification Rignature, as providcd for in the lower left-h<strong>and</strong> coriwr<br />
<strong>of</strong> the form. It is a180 apparent that Forms 1124 <strong>and</strong> 1117 are frcqucnlly<br />
forwarded without being verified, <strong>and</strong> consrquently a large nunibor <strong>of</strong><br />
errors are found in these form,<br />
In order that the number <strong>of</strong> errors may br reduced to a minimum, all<br />
balloon forma should be verified, <strong>and</strong> Form 1114 ~hould be signed before<br />
forwarding to the Central OHica,<br />
