ADDRESSES IN COMMERCE DEPARTMENT TELETYPE AND RADIO MESSAGES<br />

The instructions contained in items under the above titlc on pngc 224<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Decenibrr, 1031, <strong>and</strong> pngc 267 <strong>of</strong> the March, 1‘382, Torrcs AND<br />

PERSONNEL are hereby rcvol~ed, effective June 20, 1932. Thereafter a11<br />

messages to airport <strong>and</strong> airways stations will bo adtlrrsscd “USAWO”<br />

when intended for transmission by Commerce <strong>Department</strong> comInutiica’<br />

tion facilities.<br />

The foregoing does not apply to rnessages sent to airport or nirwaY8<br />

stations by Army or Navy radio or by telegraph. Those will bo addressed<br />

“Airwayn Obnervcr”.<br />

Messages to city <strong>of</strong>fices will be addrweed “Observer”, as at present.<br />

TRANSMISSION OF WEATHER REPORTS DURING PERIODS OF TELETYPE FAILURS<br />

Beginning July 1,1932, the following procedure will br proper durirlB<br />

teletype failure periods at those stations which normally transmit hourly<br />

airways kcather reports by that means:<br />

In the event that, for any reason, tho teletype equipment fails to funcO<br />

tion, thc observer will, if practicable, telegraph or telephone (as directed)<br />

the next succeeding hourly report following the lant report by tclctYPO<br />

to the center designattd, including a brief explanation <strong>of</strong> the cause <strong>of</strong><br />

the teletype failurc, <strong>and</strong> thcreaft~r will telegraph or telephone reports at<br />

any <strong>of</strong> the following hours included in tho failure period: 2, 8, 8, <strong>and</strong><br />

11 a. m. <strong>and</strong>p. m. (E. S. T.).<br />

Telegrams will be sent “Collrct <strong>Weather</strong>” <strong>and</strong> telephone calk on red<br />

verse charges.<br />

In the event that any material change in conditions occurs during the<br />

failure period, a new observation will be irnnicdiately taken <strong>and</strong> forwarded,<br />

as provided in paragraph G, <strong>Weather</strong> <strong>Bureau</strong> Circular N,<br />
