33. Charles Wyndham appeared as Sir Jasper Ehorndyke<br />

in Rosemary, toy Louis N. Parker and Murray Carson<br />

at the Criterion in May, 1896. Wyndham's part<br />

was that <strong>of</strong> a 40 year-old recluse who falls in love<br />

during the first three acts, and spends the fourth<br />

act, at the age <strong>of</strong> 90, trying to remember what it<br />

was like being 40. Shaw reviewed the plsy on May<br />

23, 1896, and an account <strong>of</strong> the play is given by<br />

V.J. Hext in his unpublished M.A. thesis Shaw as<br />

Gritio and Playwright. 1895-1906 (<strong>Birmingham</strong>, 1969),<br />
