5 Conclusion<br />

THERSYST <strong>da</strong>ta collection on thermophysical properties of light metal alloys comprises<br />

within about 1500 <strong>da</strong>ta-sets on 158 alloys and metal matrix composites. Data taken from<br />

publications were critically analyzed respecting to their reliability. Data base is installed as a<br />

stan<strong>da</strong>lone version at our institute and the <strong>da</strong>ta can be inquired of there.<br />

Extensive investigations of thermal conductivity and hardness of industrial aluminiumsilicon-based<br />

alloys have been performed in order to find the correlation between both<br />

properties. The hardness belongs to the important parameters describing the metallurgical<br />

state of the alloy. It can be quickly and readily determined. The measurements of the<br />

thermal conductivity are expensive and time consuming. The correlation obtained makes it<br />

possible to replace in some cases the thermal conductivity investigations by simpler<br />

hardness measurements.<br />
