Tanysancla lanceolata, new species<br />

Female, 23 mm. Head, antenna and thorax pale ochreous. Palpus<br />

pale ochreous, median segment with more than basal half suffused<br />

with greyish fuscous, a subapical dark fuscous ring, terminal segment<br />

slender, under 1; infuscated throughout, base and front dark fuscous.<br />

Abdomen whitish.<br />

Forewing ovate-lanceolate, costa moderately curved at extremities<br />

less so in middle, apex pointed, termen little curved, strongly oblique.<br />

Pale ochreous, deeper ochreous tinged towards edge of wing and<br />

towards lower half of base. Basal patch small, except extreme base<br />

of wing mixed with grey, outer edge forming three ill-defined spots:<br />

on costa, above fold and halfway between fold and dorsum; stigmata<br />

moderate, first discal rounded, about 3 times larger than plical which<br />

is just beyond it, elongate; second discal small, subtriangular; an<br />

irregular elongate patch of sparse fuscous dusting from above first<br />

discal stigma towards 3/5 of costa, not reaching it; an irregular wedgeshaped<br />

mark of fuscous suffusion from costa before apex, towards<br />

cell, hardly reaching halfway towards this; an irregular submarginal<br />

series of dots between veins, from below apex to end of fold; edge of<br />

wing along end of costa, in apex and along upper small part of termen<br />

with a brownish suffused line. Cilia whitish ochreous.<br />

Hindwing glossy whitish, gradually becoming pale ochreous towards<br />

apex, cilia ochreous whitish.<br />

Female genitalia: Sixth sternite modified, posterior edge with<br />

rounded lateral lobes and a triangular median excision; seventh<br />

segment equally modified, edge with obtusely pointed lobes and<br />

slightly sinuate in middle. Ostium bursae shaped as a regular,<br />

slender ring; 8 + 9 segment moderately sclerotized. Signum stellate.<br />

16.III.1912 (A.E. Wileman), 1 9, holotype, genit. slide 5599 (BM).<br />

The affinity of this species remains obscure.<br />
