Using tliis opportunity the lectotype of Ethmia pullata Meyrick,<br />

1910, is selected herewith. This is a 9 syntype, in good condition,<br />

labelled thus: "Guadalcanar, Solomon Is., (A.S.M), 05." in Meyrick's<br />

hand, and '^Ethmia pullata Meyr. 9 syntype, det. J.D. Bradley 1964,<br />

box N 11." Genitalia shde 5564 (BM).<br />

Material examined: Mindanao, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga,<br />

30.VI.1958 (H.E. Milliron), 1 9, genit. slide 5324, paratype (BMH).<br />

Luzon, Benguet Subprov., Klondyke, 800 ft., 15.III. and 6.IV.1912<br />

(A.E. Wileman), 2 9, genit. shde 5549, allotype and paratype (Rothschild<br />

bequest, BM). Similar to Ethmia argopa Meyrick from Malaya,<br />

but with all dots smaller, hindwing orange instead of Ught yellow, with<br />

apical area black and reaching ceU (in<br />

E. argopa paler, not reaching<br />

cell). The cf and 9 genitaUa show great differences from those of<br />

both Ethmia praeclara and E. argopa (figs. 392, 393).<br />

Also recorded from Formosa: Takow, and Japan: Kyushu, Amami<br />

Islands, and Toshima. The male holotype is from Takow, Formosa<br />

(BM).<br />

Ethmia crocosoma resignata, new subspecies<br />

Female, 28 mm.<br />

Head grey, sides of vertex white, face Ught grey.<br />

Palpus black, terminal segment mixed with grey. Antenna black.<br />

Thorax grey, patagia white, anteriorly black, tegula white with a large<br />

black basal spot; two erected black spots anteriorly, one large subapical<br />

black patch, extreme apex grey. Abdomen pale ochreous,<br />

anal tuft yeUow.<br />

Forewing elongate, moderately broad, apex pointed, termen hardly<br />

convex, moderately obhque. White, markings black. A streak<br />

along anterior 3/5 of costa formed by three semioval confluent spots,<br />

each following more elongate than preceding; a round spot on extreme<br />

base of dorsum, another similar spot beyond and rather above first,<br />

connected with first costal patch; a conspicuous, elongate-rectangular<br />

spot on about 3/4 of costa, as far from apex as from end of costal<br />

streak; two spots in disc, in upper half of cell, posterior largest, against<br />

closing vein; three more spots in disc, below ceU, first beyond 1/5, each<br />

following shghtly more distant, and a trifle larger, another spot<br />

opposite and close to termen, between veins 5-7; posterior part of<br />

costa, apex and termen with a series of some eight roundish dots<br />

between veins, largest of these in apex, second large below this, other
