of wing and filling out apical area; parting vein and veins 5 and 6<br />

narrowly dark piu'ple; upper and lower edges of ceU from beyond<br />

base to about 2/3 of wing broadly suffused with light grey. Cilia<br />

(imperfect) whitish mixed with purple.<br />

Hindwing with veins 5 and 6 stalked, stalk rather short; hindwing<br />

semipellucent; costa as far as vein 8 opaque and creamy, densely<br />

scaled; apex and dorsiun with a suffused blackish band; all veins except<br />

upper edge of cell thickly streaked with blackish, except parting vein<br />

and veins 5+6 which are very narrowly blackish.<br />

Male genitaUa: Uncus with slight excisions at bases. Gnathos<br />

broad, about 2/3 length of tegumen + uncus, slightly constricted at<br />

base, gradually narrowed beyond middle, top broad, truncate. Valva<br />

curved, gently narrowed beyond base, top clavate.<br />

Material examined : Mindanao, Zamboanga del Sur, 1 1 km NW of<br />

Milbuk, 390 m, 5.VIII.1958 (H.E. Milhron), 1 d^, holotype, genit.<br />

sHde 5325 (BMH).<br />

Very similar to G. captiosella, but with distinct costal stigmata<br />

before 2/3 of wing, and with dark-veined hindwing.<br />

Gerontha diascopa, new species<br />

Female, 29 mm. Head creamy, on vertex suffused with grey<br />

lateral tufts on vertex rising and hornlike, with dark fuscous suffused<br />

apical spots, face with white lateral spots below. Labial palpus with<br />

basal and median segments brushy, apical segment slender, compressed<br />

frontocaudally; basal and median segments black, a white<br />

spot at apex of median, terminal segment whitish, with a basal, a<br />

median, and subapical somewhat suffused blackish band. Thorax<br />

whitish, finely irrorated with light brown. Abdomen dark bronze<br />

fuscous, becoming darker posteriorly, anal tuft pale ochreous, apical<br />

segments with thin lateral fins of scales, gradually becoming two<br />

slender dorsal crests on top of apical tuft, venter light greyish ochreous.<br />

Posterior tibia dark fuscous, apex pale ochreous, tarsus pale ochreous,<br />

dark ringed.<br />

Forewing narrow, elongate-oval, costa gently concave anteriorly,<br />

almost straight, rounded-prominent beyond 3/4, apex rounded, termen<br />

rounded and oblique; with large tufts of raised scales; vein 2 from<br />

well before angle, 3 and 4 stalked from angle, 7 to apex, 9 connate<br />

with stalk of 7 + 8, 11 from 1/3. Creamy, irrorated with dark<br />

brown, this color forming dense streaks or series of rounded spots along<br />

veins, tending to form transverse strigulation. Costa suffused along<br />

basal 3/4 with pale grey and marked with numerous dark brown<br />

suffused transverse blotches; posterior fourth of costa creamy with
