similar coloring and markings (the outer edge of transverse band is<br />

gently excised above middle, the preterminal patch is quite circular,<br />

the subbasal dorsal spot is narrowly wedge-shaped in the type specimen<br />

of purpurissatana) , and that " Argyroploce" archimedias Meyrick is<br />

not a synonym.<br />

The identity of Kennel's species has recently been ascertained by<br />

Falkovitch, who transferred it into the new genus Eudemopsis. The<br />

present author was able to check this identification due to the kindness<br />

of Dr. Hannemann of the Berlin <strong>Museum</strong>, who sent me Kennel's<br />

type specimen for closer study.<br />

new species<br />

Female, 16 mm. Head and thorax rather pale vinaceous tawny,<br />

with a pale violet shine in certain lights (palpi missing). Abdomen<br />

fuscous, anal tuft tawny.<br />

Forewing moderately broad, oblong, costa and termen gently<br />

curved, apex moderately rounded. Pale ochreous grey, partially<br />

suffused with elegant pale pink, except along dorsum, with deeper<br />

pinkish-purple tinge in certain lights. Subbasal spot deep vinaceous<br />

brown, well defined, erected-subtriangular, occupying about second<br />

sixth of dorsum, top reaching obUquely outwards to middle of wing<br />

breadth; transverse fascia complete, from before middle of costa to<br />

dorsum before tornus, anterior edge well defined and finely margined<br />

with white outwardly, moderately convex, with a slight prominence<br />

of its median third; posterior edge suffused; this fascia deep vinaceous<br />

brown along upper third, forming a broad blotch across wing sUghtly<br />

dilated downward, its posterior edge suffused with greenish brown;<br />

lower third of fascia less than twice as narrow, pale greenish brown;<br />

posterior half of costa with four brownish-olive well-defined transverse<br />

marks, finely edged with blackish and separated by whitish pairs<br />

of lines; anterior mark minute, posterior continued by an oblique<br />

purplish-crimson line; apex with transverse oval vinaceous-crimson<br />

spot, continued along termen as a rather broad streak of the same<br />

color, abruptly limited above tornus, these markings edged anteriorly<br />

by black points; deep brown, turning gradually paler below posteriorly,<br />

preterminal spot large, almost circular, with a very short stalk connected<br />

with middle of termen; this spot somewhat irregularly edged<br />

with white above except on top. Cilia deep purplish brown, pale<br />

ochreous along tornus.<br />

Hindwing deep fuscous black with moderate bronze gloss. Cilia<br />

fuscous with a pale basal line, a dark fuscous subbasal band, and<br />

whitish tips.
