Mission Need: To determine the practicability of implementing Ballast Water Discharge Standards (BWDS) more
stringent than the current standards.
Project Objectives:
• Develop a plan for determining the practicability of implementing more
stringent ballast water discharge standards.
• Conduct a practicability review that examines all aspects of the prevailing
ballast water management program requirements, standards, and assess the
program’s effectiveness in preventing invasions.
